ANAHEIM, CA - In a stinging rebuke to embattled incumbent Council Member Jose Moreno, the Anaheim Firefighters Association, Local 2899, today announced their support for longtime neighborhood advocate and local businessman Mitch Caldwell in his bid for the Anaheim City Council in District 3.

In announcing the Association’s endorsement, Association President Rick Cheatham explained that Caldwell is “…a man committed to results, not the rhetoric we’ve become accustomed to.”

Caldwell has made strengthening public safety a key component of his platform and campaign for the City Council. Cheatham noted this, remarking, “Mitch Caldwell brings to the council two very important qualities for success, competence and integrity. He’s a man of his word, and will help to ensure your family is safe by restoring the 21 positions Anaheim Firefighters lost 10 years ago. A vote for Mitch is a vote for your safety.”

Upon learning of the Anaheim Firefighters Association’s endorsement, Caldwell noted, “It’s a humbling experience to receive the support of men and women who step up to serve our residents under some of the toughest conditions imaginable. It’s unconscionable that we would ask them to do so without giving them the staffing, equipment, or support they need to do the job. It’s a disgrace that our current council member sees fit to let public servants risk their lives without the security of a contract. If elected to the City Council, I will work with my colleagues on the dais to fully staff our fire and police departments.”

Originally established in 1964, the Anaheim Firefighters Association represents the nearly 200 firefighters, paramedics, and emergency medical technicians who serve the residents of the City of Anaheim as members of the Anaheim Fire & Rescue Department.

The Anaheim Firefighters Association joins community leaders and stakeholders from across the ideological spectrum who have endorsed Caldwell for City Council in District 3, including the Los Angeles/Orange Counties Building & Construction Trades Council; Congresswoman Loretta Sanchez (ret.); Assemblyman Tom Daly; Anaheim City Council Members Steve Faessel, Lucille Kring, and Kris Murray; and Anaheim Elementary School District Trustee D.R. Heywood.
